      cadet boys - HEAD coach

My role as the clubs Head Coach means that I oversee the training and competitive elements of the club from juniors to seniors, working closely with the club coaches to ensure a consistent and uniform delivery of information, that brings the best out of the players and the coaches.

As the assistant coach for the England Cadet Boys, I get to see the top prospects this country has to offer on a monthly basis. Working to Head Coach Luis Bello I am constantly updating and developing my coaching.

My Experience as an England and Great Britain International over a 12-year period gives me a good library of knowledge to pass on to the players and the coaches. Add in to that, I am in the process of completing my level 3 volleyball coaching award, the highest award in England.

My job as a volleyball commentator, where I sit court-side and watch the best teams in the world play the game, gives me unique access to players and coaches to discuss the game at the highest level, keeping my knowledge up to date and relevant.

  • ENGLAND CADETS/JUNIORS

New Forest currently has the following players involved with the Cadets, Ben Lucas and Josh Green. The England Juniors, which is the next step for the Cadets has Theo Lucas, George Longmore and Ed Van Wingerden, all New Forest 1st Team players.

Coming up for the Cadets and the Juniors this Autumn is the UK School Games. Theo Lucas whilst playing for the Cadets last year was instrumental in recording a historic win over the Juniors.

Following on from the UK School Games, both the Cadets and Juniors will be involved in NEVZA (North European Volleyball Zonal Association). The Cadets will be off to Denmark, whilst the Juniors will host the event here in England.

All the boys will be working hard to secure places in the squads for both events.

The academy has been set up to offer those players who want to go further in the game a chance to do so.

The sessions currently run on Mondays and Thursday at the Ballard School (times & squads below). This part of the club allows us to give the players match experience and also administrative experience in the form of line judging, scoring and 2nd refereeing, all vital components for any student taking GCSE PE.

In order to give the players the best chance of having positive outcomes from matches, we have entered the boys U16 and girls U18 team into the SADVA (Southampton and District Volleyball Association) local league based in Southampton. Playing triangulars on a Friday against men’s teams has proved to be invaluable in accelerating player development.

In our first season, the boys won 2 games. Last season they only lost 2 games (1 be default as we plagued with holidays!), winning the league in the process. As well as that, our teams are in the age group national competitions. We have been top 4 in the country with the boys at U15 and U16 in the last 2 seasons. This season we will be coming to end of one cycle as we enter an U18 boys team and start a new cycle by entering both a boys and girls U16 team.

With the expansion of the girls section, we have also entered the girls into the 2016/17 Hampshire Grand Prix. We are lucky to have a choice of regions to aspire to play for being based where we are. South East has been the preferred choice for the club and with the help of a predominantly New Forest first 6, South East won the U15 Inter Regional Tournament in 2015, beating the favourites London, in a 3 set thriller!!

If you are looking to develop your volleyball and want to play In local and national competitions, then this is the club for you.
